Gedan Barai

Note: gedan barai, downward sweep, is the bread
and butter technique of the taikyoku. The term is a corruption into Japanese
of the Spanish/Portugese word for broom as apparently, before the Iberians arrived,
nobody in Japan had seen a broom, letting the wind blow through their shoji
screens instead.
The picture below shows the setup for the technique. As in all setup, two
hands are positioned.
